About the project

Blood Donor — An app for the Mexican Red Cross

An app that lets anyone book a blood donation with the Mexican Red Cross and keep track of their donor history. It builds on the flows of the American Red Cross Blood Donor app and adapts them to Mexico: ages 18 to 65, altitude-adjusted hemoglobin under the NOM-253-SSA1-2012 standard, five-digit postal codes, kilometers, and data consent under Mexico's LFPDPPP privacy law. The project began with the functional analysis, back office, and requirements, plus clickable prototypes to validate the flows with Red Cross staff.

What it includes

Donor

  • Ten-step sign-up with an age check and the fields from the blood bank's donor form
  • Appointment booking by donation type, location, day, and time, including as a guest
  • The NOM-253 screening questionnaire built into the app, plus a QR pass for check-in
  • Digital donor card with units donated, blood type, and donor number
  • Donation history and blood pressure and hemoglobin charts
  • Forty educational pages on requirements and the donation process

How it's built

  • React Native with Expo and expo-router: one codebase for iOS, Android, and web
  • A simulated data layer shaped like the reference API (55 endpoints), ready to swap for the real backend
  • Biometric sign-in, location maps, and notifications
  • Test data flagged across the system so it never reaches production
